Dara Torres hit the wall just a split second after Britta Steffen of Germany. Not bad for a 41 year old mommy of a two year old swimming against a 24 year old AND a 16 year old.

Talk about cutting it close. Michael Phelps won his 7th gold medal of the 2008 Olympics by a mere sliver. How does he DO it?? Maybe it’s the 12,000 calories per day he consumes to keep up his energy.
Congrats Michael! I hope you win a dozen more.

Relative of US Olympic coach killed in Beijing

BEIJING (AP) A knife-wielding Chinese man attacked two relatives of a coach for the U.S. Olympic men’s volleyball team at a tourist site in Beijing, killing one and injuring the other on the first day of the Olympics on Saturday, team officials and state media said.
The man then committed suicide by throwing himself from the second story of the site, the 13th century Drum Tower just five miles from the main Olympics site.

CHICAGO — Comedian and actor Bernie Mac, who starred in one of U.S. TV’s few black sitcoms and appeared in the “Ocean’s 11″ movies, died in Chicago on Saturday after a bout with pneumonia. He was 50.
